The first time I used iTuneU on my iPad was like having been introduced to a whole new world of opportunities for learning. This application had enabled me to have access to the lectures and courses from the most well-known universities such as Harvard only by one tap on my iPad. From many courses I watched on iTuneU one stood out to me: Psychology :Understanding Happiness. This course includes seven talks from seven prominent psychologists and educators such as Martin Seligman, Dan Gilbert and Barry Schwartz from around the globe. In this course you will get some insights and information regarding various areas of psychology mainly the new branch of psychology, called positive psychology, which focuses on the art and science of cultivating and enhancing happiness in people.
After searching the courses offered by some of MOOC sites such as Udacity, edx, Coursera and Venturlab by Stanford University I enrolled in one of the courses offered by Stanford University called “Designing A New Learning Environment.”
This is a Project-based course in which participants will learn about a systematic design thinking that enables them to create a learning environment suitable for the 21st century. According to the website at the end of the course students are able to:
“Identify advantages, disadvantages, limitations, and potentials of at least 10 interactive learning models and solutions.
Describe how online communication, collaboration, and visualization technology play a role in the behavioral, cognitive, constructivist, and social dimensions of learning.
Describe the major components and processes involved in development of interactive education systems.
Communicate rationales of learning technology design approaches through team-oriented collaborations.
Evaluate the value of ideas, principles, and techniques used in educational media or systems”
The participants do not need a prior computer knowledge, but are expected to have the commitment to team work in a virtual environment and the passion for helping others to learn better. The course commences on Oct 15 2012 and ends on Dec 20, 2012. The course consists of video lectures. The students are asked to do assignments which are in the form of power point and video presentations and upload them through their computers. The workload for this course will be 4 hours a week. As a Final Team Project, we are required to design a new learning model which is suitable for learners of 21st century. From all the projects the best ones will be chosen and will be uploaded onto Stanford University website.
Bellow there is a short introductory video on the course. I am excited to participate in this course as an extension for what I have learned in my e-Learning course this semester, so I will be equipped with more knowledge and skills to design the best learning environment for my students in the future.
